It's HOT!

But I'm not complaining, really.
It is July 28th, after all and this is really the first night I've really been uncomfortable.
I haven't installed my window a/c units yet.  I usually don't remove them, but the landlady asked me to take them out because she put siding on the house last Fall and also installed some new windows.  So they had to come out.  And I can't carry an a/c unit.  Now, i have people I could ask to come over to install them, that's really not the problem. The problem is: I AM CHEAP!!!!!
And I just don't want to give United Illuminating (Our electric company, for those who don't know) all of my money this summer!  My electric bill was $100 in April (probably used the oven a lot) but for May and June, it was "only" $79. Seems like a lot but during the Fall and Winter, i was averaging $100-110 a month, so this makes me happy.

I'll stick it out as long as possible. I have one fan in the kitchen blowing on exhaust, which pulls air through and I have a fan in the bedroom in the window, blowing in. I've been pretty comfortable so far.  We'll see.

I exchanged the Griddler on Saturday and set it up tonight. I think it worked better than the first one did. (I know it did) but I am still not convinced it's as good as the price tag would lead me to expect it to be.  So I'll use it a few more times this week and decide. if I have to, I'll exchange it for the Calphalon. And if that one disappoints, they already told me, they will credit my Visa Gift card the purchase price and I can buy something else with the gift card.
Bed Bath and Beyond gives GREAT customer service. Who knew? I was always a Linens and Things shopper because that's the one that we had here. Then BBB opened down the street from LnT about 2 years ago. And of course, then LnT went out of business.  So I never really shopped there much. Those 20% off coupons are great, too. And they keep coming in the mail, every week or so. I bought the neatest thing there Saturday, it's this device that lets you put lotion on your own back! It is a round chamber with about 20 little "roller balls" in it. You open the back of the chamber, fill it with lotion and voila, you can lotion your own back!  It's a miracle! $10. Well, I had a coupon, $5 off any $15 purchase. So I picked up about $5 worth of travel size items for my upcoming trip... and they were basically free!

I cooked a small round steak tonight, gave it the London Broil treatment.  With some grilled zucchini and potatoes.  It was tasty. And like I said, the grill worked ok. I'll let it get broken in before I decide whether I'll keep it or not.

  1. Dinner for me tonight was three scrambled eggs and some potatoes. I wanted to finish up the eggs before I went away on vacation.

Speaking of air conditioners, the one in my bedroom starts to make an annoying whirling noise lately, but only after its been on for an hour or two. I usually just let the AC in my bedroom run for a couple hours, then I turn it off when I go to bed, even when it does work properly so this noise thing isn't a big deal. I will probably have one of the maintenance guys look at it when I return from vacation. The AC in my living room works great. I leave it on the lowest setting during the day so Darwin the kitten doesn't get too hot, then I turn it off when I get home. My neighbor Don will be doing that for me (and Darwin) when I am away.
